Woundplast, also known as benzalkonium chloride‑impregnated adhesive bandage and commonly referred to as an antiseptic elastic bandage, is, as its name suggests, often applied by many people at the first sign of a wound. It is one of the most frequently used topical surgical products in daily life, which is why it is colloquially called a “hemostatic plaster.” Woundplast consists primarily of a plain cloth adhesive strip and an absorbent pad, serving to stop bleeding and protect the wound. It is suitable for shallow, clean, well‑defined wounds with minimal bleeding that do not require sutures. In general, for minor superficial abrasions, there is no need to use a woundplast; simply wiping the area with ethanol (alcohol) can effectively help prevent infection. Avoid indiscriminately applying gentian violet to the wound. Some people may assume that a single woundplast can remain in place for several days, but this is not advisable—do not leave it on for more than 24 hours, and be sure to change it regularly.
